Word order

Word Order: The word order for a simple English sentence is Subject-Verb-Object (S-V-O). However, different syntactical rules need to be applied for questions, reported questions, reported negations etc.

Example:
Simple Sentence: We won the match
(Subject = “we”, Verb = “won”, Object = “the match”)

“Wh-” questions:
Direct speech: He asked, “Where are you?” (Wh - V - S)
Reported speech: He asked me where I was. (Wh - S - V)
