The real purpose why this question is asked is to understand what you think are your strengths, learnings and unique experiences if any. Very little time should be spent on facts such as 10th class marks, 12th class marks, names of schools etc. However, you can mention them if you think those facts will support your case. For instance, if you stood 1st in your school in your 12th exams. The framework to use in responding to this question is as follows:
- Your name
- Your discipline
- Highlight areas in academics where you have done well and would like to point out to the interviewer
- Talk about any area that is in the resume and you would like for the interviewer to know about it. Remember, the interview has just glanced your resume and he does not keep everything in mind
- Mention the top 1 or 2 areas that are your strengths
- Mention 1 or 2 things about your career
- Mention why you are interested in the job
- Keep your response to less than 3 minutes

- Write your response down on paper. Make concise and to the point
- Sit in front of the mirror, speak to yourself and answer the question
